Andrew Hannan, CHC Australia

Andrew, CEO at Community Housing Canberra, has senior executive experience in strategy, finance, operations and risk management across a variety of sectors including Higher Education, Energy and Defence.

Over the past 5 years as CEO Andrew has strengthened relationships with the ACT Government, private industry and community organisations to help support those most vulnerable in our community. He has overseen the delivery of several major ACT development projects, delivering hundreds of dwellings including the provision of Special Disability Accommodation and other forms of social and affordable rental properties, and affordable home purchase dwellings, that has provided a pathway to many CHC tenants into home ownership. Andrew oversaw the establishment of the ACT’s first not-for-profit licenced real estate agency, HomeGround Real Estate Canberra, providing opportunities for private landlords to help address the rental affordability crisis. He has recently successfully negotiated a major debt restructure with the ACT Government that leaves CHC debt free, positioning the organisation to play a key role in delivering on ACT Government and CHC affordable rental growth objectives.

Andrew is a past National Chair of the Community Housing Industry Association (CHIA), past Chair of the CHIA ACT Regional Committee, and past member of the Social Sustainability Committee of the Property Council of Australia (ACT).  In these capacities Andrew contributed to policy development and advocacy relating to social and affordable rental housing and works with key stakeholders in the Federal and State Government, Industry and Community Sector to advance the impact of the Community Housing Sector as a whole.
