The National Housing Accord (the Accord) announced by the Federal Government in October 2022 aims to bring together all levels of government, institutional investors, and the construction sector to achieve the national target of 1.2 million new, well-located homes over 5 years from 2024, and help to unlock affordable housing supply.

As part of the Budget, the Federal Government committed $350 million to support funding an additional 10,000 affordable homes under the Accord over the same period.

NHFIC’s role will be to facilitate the delivery of the Federal Government’s commitment of an additional 10,000 affordable homes over 5 years under the $350 million Accord program.

In line with the launch of the Accord program, NHFIC will deliver industry-wide briefings to inform the sector of how the Accord program will be delivered, including the confirmed application process, eligibility criteria, funding model, documentation, evaluation criteria and timeframes for funding under the Accord. NHFIC is continuing to engage widely with key stakeholder groups, including community housing providers, and will keep our stakeholders informed as we progress.

In other community housing news, recently, NHFIC funding has helped to support sector growth with more homes for lower income households. A new social and affordable housing development in South Granville, Sydney was completed, providing 35 new homes for people on low to moderate incomes.

NHFIC funding also has helped deliver 152 new apartments for over 55s in Melbourne, Victoria. The partnership between NHFIC, Homes Victoria and HousingFirst saw the opening of the first of three residential buildings in Brighton East on 11 July 2023. More information here.

On 14 July 2023, NHFIC CEO Nathan Dal Bon joined the Prime Minister, The Hon Anthony Albanese MP, The Hon Julie Collins MP, The Hon Rose Jackson MLC, BlueCHP CEO, Charles Northcote, and members of NHFIC’s executive team for the opening of the BlueCHP affordable housing project Jordan Springs, NSW.
